7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Myanmar, Over 1,600 Dead

Please pray for the countries of Myanmar (Burma) and Thailand as the death toll from a 7.7 magnitude earthquake on Friday has risen to more than 1,600. Considered the deadliest quake in Myanmar in years, it is feared that number dead could increase to 10,000. Parts of Thailand, including Bangkok, have also been devastated.

Myanmar has been reeling from a civil war sparked by a 2021 military coup, and weak infrastructure and a shortage of heavy machinery makes it ill-equipped to deal with the disaster. Its government is reaching out for international assistance.

Calvary Chapel Pastor David Gordon and his wife, Irina—sent out from Calvary Aurora, CO, pastored by Ed Taylor—lead a fellowship in Bangkok. They are safe and were not directly impacted.

Pray for successful recovery efforts and all who are affected by this tragedy.
