Many Lives Lost in Deadly Passenger Plane, Helicopter Collision

Join us in praying for the families of the passengers lost in the deadly collision between a military helicopter and a regional passenger plane at Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National Airport Wednesday night. This may become the worst U.S. aviation disaster in almost a quarter century, officials indicated.

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart. Psalm 34:18a

According to the FAA, at around 9 p.m. local time, American regional airline PSA Airlines’ American Eagle flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, collided with “a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport.” All 60 passengers and four crew members on board the plane are feared dead, and rescue operations have turned into recovery efforts in the icy Potomac River outside the airport, officials said. The helicopter was carrying three soldiers on a training flight. Wreckage from both has been found in the waist-deep water.

As of Thursday morning, there were no known survivors.

Pray for peace and comfort for the families and friends of all who lost their lives in this tragic collision. Pray also for the first responders performing the heart-wrenching recovery work and for the investigators who must determine in coming weeks the cause of this collision.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

“I would just say that everyone who flies in American skies expects that we fly safely,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. “That when you depart an airport, you get to your destination. That didn’t happen last night and I know that President Trump, his administration, the FAA, the DOT, we will not rest until we have answers for the families and for the flying public. You should be assured that when you fly, you’re safe.”
