Pastor Jeff Johnson began Session 10 Wednesday night by observing that he would entitle the conference thus far as “The Work of the Holy Spirit in the Calvary Chapels.” He added that he believed God was doing a renewed work. With all the recent and rapid changes in the world, he declared, “God has gotten our attention.”

Jeff talked about the outpouring of love he believed God was working through His Church as smaller churches were shutting down and larger congregations were welcoming these in. He acknowledged his and his wife Karyn’s bouts with COVID-19 and the losses they suffered in losing Jeff’s assistant pastor and Karyn’s brother to the virus.

Assigned Acts 19:2, Jeff instead read from the Amplified version of Revelation 3:2-3a: Wake up, and strengthen and reaffirm what remains [of your faithful commitment to Me], which is about to die; for I have not found [any of] your deeds completed in the sight of My God or meeting His requirements. So remember and take to heart the lessons you have received and heard. Keep and obey them, and repent …

“I prepared a message [for] tonight, and I can’t share it,” he admitted. He reflected his message had already been shared and then exhorted the men and women in the room with this call: Wake up and call to mind the lessons we have heard and received and strengthen those things; obey and repent.

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” Acts 19:2

Jeff referred to his assigned verse (above) and posed the question, “Have you received the Holy Spirit when you believed?” That led into an afterglow session where he asked for those wanting the baptism of the Holy Spirit to stand, and remain standing, as others laid their hands upon them in prayer. “Ask, and it shall be given to you” (Matthew 7:7a).

He called Pastor Joe Focht of Calvary Chapel Philadelphia, PA, to join him in praying over those standing, those desiring a greater empowerment for ministry and to be His witnesses. Joe shared Jesus’ confidence in talking to us about the promise of God the Father—“a divine promise made by my Father in heaven.”

Jeff then called Pastor David Rosales up as he related the importance of our response to temptation and of repentance. “We need to be like Joseph. He ran. He didn’t [take] a second look,” Jeff stated. David, from Calvary Chapel Chino Valley, CA, shared a personal story of a woman who had come to have inappropriate affections towards him. “Don’t deposit your treasure in the wrong place,” he exhorted before praying over the pastors, their wives, and their families.

Next, Pastor Don McClure joined Jeff on stage to pray for healing for those suffering from physical, mental, and emotional afflictions, as well as from grief and sorrows. Jesus was “a man of many sorrows” the Bible states—and He came with healing, Don reminded them.

Jeff’s wife Karyn then came on stage to pray for the women in the audience and the temptations they also face. “We have to know God’s Word and quote the Word back,” she urged. Lastly, Pastor Jeff prayed over marriages before the night was closed out in worship.
