Pennsylvania Calvary Chapel Leads Prayer Event

“The whole idea is the community of believers, the body of Christ in our community, coming together to pray together for our nation,” said Steve Feeley, associate pastor of Calvary Chapel Central Bucks in Chalfont, PA. The fellowship coordinated, for their first time, the long-standing Bucks County National Day of Prayer event on Thursday, May 1.
Approximately 130 believers gathered at noon for the 45-minute event at the flagpole at the old Doylestown, PA, courthouse. It began and ended with worship, which sandwiched focused prayers by Pastor Steve and four other leaders. “When it comes to praying for our nation, the best thing we can pray for is revival. I wanted that to be the overarching theme, although each of the four speakers had their own topic to get us praying about,” Steve emphasized.
Each of the four speakers was given two minutes for comments and five for participants in the crowd to gather in small groups of three to four to pray for a specific topic. Topics included education and schools, mission outreaches across the street and around the world, families and protection of the unborn, and for the Church to be what God has called it to be. “We wanted to pray together—it’s not a spectator sport. Everybody loved that,” Steve declared.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. Psalm 33:12
In his own comments, Pastor Steve focused on Psalm 33:12. “I used this verse as a launch pad to talk about the founding of our nation in the 1700s on biblical roots. Then I talked about how the Number One text in all the schools was the Bible until the 1900s. How far we have fallen! The way we get back is individual repentance leading to revival,” he exhorted.
Free Gospels of John
Two tables were set up along the walkway leading up to the lawn—a path used by courthouse employees and others stopping for an alfresco lunch. Steve noted, “We took 100 Pocket Testament League Gospels of John and piled them up on both tables with a sign that said Free to You, Take One. Thirty went out to those who weren’t part of the event,” he exclaimed joyfully.
The Night Before
In addition, CC Central Bucks does their own church event the night before this important event, Steve acknowledged. “For years, we have always done what we call ‘The Night Before National Day of Prayer’ in our sanctuary. It’s longer with an extended worship time, and six speakers that get us praying about various topics.”
Prayer: The Most Important Thing
The National Day of Prayer event is important to the community and its churches, Steve believes. “Churches can’t always align on everything they do. However, when it comes to prayer, if we’re truly born-again believers in Christ, we should agree that prayer is the most important thing we can do. It’s the one thing we can really align on. Just once a year, we get together as the body of Christ in the public square and pray to our Almighty God. I think that’s so important.”
Upcoming Church Move
Birthed in 1999 as a Bible study with 30 people in a barn, CC Central Bucks is moving into a facility five times larger than its current building, according to Senior Pastor John Hessler. “We current have 13,000 square feet. The new building, just purchased last week, is 70,000 square feet—a little bit bigger!”
John added, “Ours is a vibrant fellowship of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ that gathers to worship Him, study His Word, serve His people, and share His Gospel. In every ministry, class, service, and outreach, our goal is to glorify God and see Him at work in our midst.”
