Flooding Devastates Eastern Kentucky, Leaving Behind Great Needs

Last week, historic flooding in eastern Kentucky devastated the area—leaving scores homeless, at least 37 dead, and many still unaccounted for.

Rescue efforts have been further complicated by additional rainfall and ensuing mudslides that have blocked roadways, knocked out power and cell service, and washed away homes, vehicles, schools, bridges, and much of the infrastructure. Many are still stranded without access to water, medications, and food; now they are experiencing high temperatures, placing additional stress on those delivering aid and assistance, and to the elderly and those with fragile medical conditions.

People in this area of Kentucky, already living at poverty level, have lost almost everything and are in dire need of our prayers. Please carve out time in your daily petitions to God for provision, safety, mercy, and grace for those affected as well as for those providing relief.

Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,

Hollybush, in southeastern Kentucky, is submerged in raging flood waters after Troublesome Creek jumped its banks during the heavy rains. Historic flooding last week in eastern Kentucky has wreaked incredible destruction in many communities. Pray for the many people who are facing enormous loss from this disaster, and for those who will respond to meet the need.
